Day 1 – London:

Depart Heathrow at around 16:20 on British Airways to Beijing.

Day 2 – Beijing:

Arrive Beijing around 13:10 and transfer to the 4-star Shangri-La Traders Hotel. Afternoon visit to the quaint hutong quarter by Lake Houhai. Enjoy a welcome dinner.

Day 3 – Beijing:

Morning visit to Tiananmen Square en-route to the Forbidden City, the complex of imperial palaces which were home to the Emperors for over 500 years. In the afternoon visit the beautiful Summer Palace.

Day 4 – Beijing:

This morning visit the Ming era Temple of Heaven. Drive north to the less- crowded and more scenic part of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Evening Peking Duck dinner.

Day 5 Beijing, Tianjin, Beijing:

Take a short bullet train journey to Tianjin. Enjoy a guided adventure tour of the city by public transport. Visit the former Italian concession area of the city before visiting the towering Tianjin Eye for stunning aerial views of one of China’s fastest growing cities. Afternoon visit to Tianjin’s ancient cultural street before enjoying a cruise along the Haihe River. Return to Beijing.

Day 6 – Xian:

Morning flight to Xian. Visit the Han Yan Ling Museum. Continue to the Ming City Walls before transferring to the Grand New World Hotel Xian.

Day 7 – Xian:

Visit the world-renowned Terracotta Army – individually crafted life- sized figures, complete with chariots and horses. Afternoon visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Grand Mosque and Muslim quarter. Optional dinner and excellent Tang era music and dance performance.

Day 8 – Guilin:

Fly to Guilin and visit the Tea Research Institute surrounded by limestone karsts. Transfer to the 4-star Bravo Hotel. (BD)

Day 9 – Yangshuo:

Take the magical Li River cruise to Yangshuo and drift gently through enchanting landscapes. Browse through Yangshuo’s colourful shops and visit scenic Gaotian township. This evening optional son et lumiere show performed on the river by a cast of 600. Stay at the Yangshuo Resort.

Day 10 – Yangshuo:

Explore the countryside around Yangshuo, passing through villages to the Yulong River. Visit a farmer’s house and continue to Jiuxian village. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 11 – Guilin, Shanghai :

This morning visit the Silver Cave before returning to Guilin. Fly to Shanghai and stay at the 4-star Central Hotel.

Day 12 – Shanghai:

Visit the Yuyuan Garden, Huxing Teahouse and the old Chinese quarter with its colourful bazaar. A ‘dim sum’ lunch is arranged to sample these famous delicacies. Admire birds’ eye views from the Oriental Pearl Tower. Visit the quaint Xintiandi concession area and the famous Bund before dinner. Optional cruise on the Huangpu River to admire the beautifully illuminated Bund and Pudong District.

Day 13 – Shanghai, Zhujiajiao, Shanghai:

This morning visit the pretty watertown of Zhujiajiao (around 40 minutes from Shanghai). There are small waterways, shops, unusual museums, cafes and restaurants. Enjoy a boat trip on the lake and take lunch in a local restaurant before returning to Shanghai. Afternoon at leisure. Optional evening Shanghai acrobatic performance.

Day 14 Shanghai, London:

Fly to Heathrow arriving in London at 11:00 am the same day.
